Review: Street Game by Christine Feehan

Title: Street Game (Ghostwalkers Series, #8)
Published: December 2009
Publisher: Penguin Group
Format: Audio Book
Source: Public Library
Characters: Jamie Fielding, Mack McKinley
My Rating:

For Mack McKinley and his team of GhostWalker killing machines, urban warfare is an art. But despite a hard-won knowledge of the San Francisco streets, Mack knows from experience that too many things can still go wrong. Danger was just another part of the game—and now he’s come face-to-face with a woman who can play just as tough.

She’s Jaimie, a woman with a sapphire stare so potent it can destroy a man. Years ago she and Mack had a history—volatile, erotic, and electric. Then she vanished. Now she’s walked back into Mack’s life, as a spy with more secrets than are good for her. Against all odds, she’s hooking up with Mack one more time to take on an enemy that could destroy them both, or bring them back together in one hot, no-holds-barred adrenaline rush.
If you follow my blog you will notice that this book stayed on my 'currently reading' list for quite a while because I would find myself constantly setting it aside. The only reason I did complete it was because it's Christine Feehan.

My major problem with this book was that I didn't know any of these people. They weren't introduced in earlier books and finally got their own story. They were complete unknowns to me. I didn't seem to form any kind of attachment to any of the characters, primary or secondary. I didn't car one way or the other about Jamie or Mack. He seemed rather cold, like there wasn't any depth to his character.

The action in this book also fell flat for me as well. It seems as if it's getting a little redundant. I hope this isn't a glimpse of what's to come for the Ghostwalker Series, because if so, it's very disappointing.

Spotlight: The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker

Each Monday, I thought I would try and spotlight a different book that I find interesting from reading the blurb. This week I'm spotlighting The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker. I know my blog is mainly romance, but from time to time I do read a little mystery and thrillers. Although I've never read Ted Dekker before, I am a fan of James Patterson and this book came up as one I may like since I like Patterson. The title is what caught me, so I had to read the blurb. This is another book I'll be adding to my local library wait list.

The Blurb

FBI Special agent Brad Raines is facing his toughest case yet. A Denver serial killer has killed four beautiful young women, leaving a bridal veil at each crime scene, and he's picking up his pace. Unable to crack the case, Raines appeals for help from a most unusual source: residents of the Center for Wellness and Intelligence, a private psychiatric institution for mentally ill individuals whose are extraordinarily gifted.

It's there that he meets Paradise, a young woman who witnessed her father murder her family and barely escaped his hand. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, Paradise may also have an extrasensory gift: the ability

In a desperate attempt to find the killer, Raines enlists Paradise's help. In an effort to win her trust, he befriends this strange young woman and begins to see in her qualities that most 'sane people' sorely lack. Gradually, he starts to question whether sanity resides outside the hospital walls...or inside.

to experience the final moments of a person's life when she touches the dead body.

As the Bride Collector picks up the pace-and volume-of his gruesome crucifixions, the case becomes even more personal to Raines when his friend and colleague, a beautiful young forensic psychologist, becomes the Bride Collector's next target.

Review: Linger by Maya Banks

Title: Linger
Author: Maya Banks
Published: May 04, 2010
Publisher: Samhain
Format: Trade Paperback
Pages: 267
Source: purchased via
Characters: Catherine Cullen-Wellesley, Logan Wellesley, Rhys Cullen, Emily Donovan, Taggert Donovan, Greer Donovan
My Rating:

Love can help broken spirits soar again…

Years ago, Greer and Taggert meant everything to Emily. Their cavalier rejection sent her into the arms of their youngest brother. Her angelic voice launches her to stardom—until tragedy shocks her into silence.

Grieving for their brother, Taggert and Greer take Emily back to Montana, determined to help her heal and find her voice again. Under the protective shield of their love, she begins to blossom. Then an old threat resurfaces. Now the men who love her face a fight for what they once threw away.

Stay With Me
Catherine hopes her announcement to the two men in her life—she’s pregnant—will be the perfect start to the vacation they promised her: two weeks on a Jamaican beach. No cell phones, no emails, no business. But when they blow her off for yet another “business emergency”, she packs her bags for her long-awaited vacation—alone.

When Logan and Rhys come home to an empty house, they realize two things: One, it was a mistake to take Catherine for granted. Two, they’re not willing to just let her walk out of their lives. Getting her back will be the toughest deal they’ve ever negotiated.

First off, I'd like to say that 'GD' was used so many times throughout this book that I lost count. I feel like this is the only curse word Maya knows.

Okay now that I've gotten that off my chest, on with the review. Linger is a anthology of two of Maya's previous ebooks, Stay With Me and Songbird. Trust me by the end of this book you'll never want to hear the words: GD, songbird, or sweet pea ever again.

Stay With Me
There's not much I can say about this one other than hot sex, but not much substance. I didn't like the heroine at all; she seemed to be too whiny and weepy. There were times when I honestly felt bad for her, and then there were time when I wanted to yell at her to do something about it if she was not happy with the status quo. I know that it's easier said than done, but I feel like there is only so much you can sit back and take from some one before you've had enough. The guys just kept making promises that they were not keeping until the very end when tradegy struck. I would have prefered the husbands to change their ways because they wanted to, not because it took a tradegy for them to see the light.

This story seemed to be a twist off of Stay With Me and Colters' Woman. I've never been a fan of books where the hero/heroine starts out married to one person and the ends up married to that person's sibling. If she had started out withall three siblings instead of her being married to one and then him dying and her getting with the other two it would have been fine. Instead it was just a little icky to me. But Maya hasn't wrote a sex scene I didn't like, so of caousre that part was on point. It was just the back story I did not like. Although I did enjoy one of the last chapters where Emily was speaking with Sean, but I won't get into that and spoil it for others. I have to say this one isn't one of my favorites.

Guess the Book...{2}

This is a meme hosted by Jill @ Romance Rookie, that looks like great fun. On Fridays, I'll post a snippet/excerpt of a book from my TBR pile to see if you the readers can guess the title and author. I'll try to host my version of this meme each Friday. Happy guessing!!

Can you guess from which book this excerpt came?

He touched his mouth to hers. She did not flinch. She took his kiss. And so he pressed firmly, indulging the sweet fire lingering on the center of her lips.
First kisses were always awkward. This one flamed with welcoming adventure. It wasn't really their first. Yet it was the first they'd both agreed to.
She was the one to dash her tongue across his, blending her fiery chocolate heat with his own. He had never tasted a finer kiss. A kiss so wickedly hot, and capable of melding two mouths that would normally never touch.
"I like that," she said against his mouth. Her lashes fluttered. "The chocolate, I mean."
"Right, the chocolate." He kissed her again, more chaste, a finale to something that could become much more were the gauzy tent not so sheer.
"Thank you," he said. "For teaching me to experience new
